Herb Kane

Herb Kawainui Kane (KAH-ney) is an artist and author with special interest in Hawai'i and the South Pacific. His clientele includes many private collectors, the Hawai'i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, the National Park Service, the U.S. Postal Service, National Geographic, and many publishers of books and periodicals. He has designed postage stamps for several Pacific Island nations and served as a design consultant to resorts in Hawai'i and the South Pacific, and a cultural centre in Fiji.

Research on Polynesian canoes and voyaging led to his participation as a general designer, builder, and first captain of the voyaging canoe replica Hokulea, which has logged more than 60,000 miles throughout Polynesia.

Books in print are: ANCIENT HAWAII, VOYAGERS and PELE, Goddess of Hawai'i's Volcanoes. He resides in rural South Kona on the Island of Hawai'i.
