Torch fishing for flying fish at is practiced at Atiu, Cook Islands. On still nights the malolo are netted as they surface or leap toward torchlight. Nocturnal fishing parties were occasions for much humorous banter as each man took his turn at the net. The technique is still practiced in Tahiti, using outboard-powered skiffs and electric lights.
